Scott McInnes

Scott McInnes: Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica

Scotty grew up in Geelong, on Victoria's beautiful Surf Coast, where a love of music and the outdoors became part of who he is. Much of that inspiration came from his older brother, who introduced him to surfing and the soundtrack of the late 1960s and early 1970s, music that still influences his songwriting today.

After relocating to Townsville in 1998, Scotty immersed himself in the local music scene. A self-taught guitarist and harmonica player, he performed with the Wattle and Gum Bush Band before going on to play with local favourites Killbeggan and Grange Courtiers.

In 2013, Scotty joined the Aquapella Choir, where he met future musical partner JR. Although music had always been a passion, it wasn't until 2020 that he began writing his own songs and performing them at the Townsville Folk Club. The welcoming folk community gave him the confidence to develop his craft and share his stories with audiences, ultimately leading to the formation of Halfway to Somewhere.

Scotty's songwriting draws inspiration from a wide range of subjects, from fascinating moments in history to the everyday experiences, humour and challenges that connect us all. His songs combine thoughtful storytelling with memorable melodies and a genuine warmth that has become a hallmark of the band's music.

Since retiring, Scotty has devoted himself to songwriting, creating a catalogue of more than 50 original songs and continuing to write. Away from music, he is an accomplished artist and a passionate runner, finding inspiration in both creativity and the natural world.
