Basil Harvey: Bass Guitar

Basil has been playing music ever since he was thrust into a music class, where he picked up his first guitar at the age of 13. Although he was in his first band way back in the late 1970s with school mates, it was a few years before he was doing performance.

Basil has played guitar and bass in a few bands since the 1980s. All of these have included his wife Jan. These have been, The Phoenix Club, What Neil Left and Box of Chocolates. He’s played at music festivals and in bars from Far North Queensland to Nagasaki.

Basil is a songwriter and performer and spent many years as director of arts and music departments at TAFE colleges in Southeast Queensland.

His love of bass guitar comes from a line of influences like, Sherbert’s Tony Mitchell, Sade’s Paul Denman and Level 42’s Mark King.

In the mid 2020s he met Scott McInnes and John Richter at choir, and they invited him to join Halfway to Somewhere. He’s been practising, performing and recording with them ever since.
